The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade was held on 28 February. Tom Robinson went to Australia and marched with the Bi Pride contingent.

Marching myself made it impossible to see everything, but possible to see the bits one did see from really close up. I have to say the whole thing was totally exf***ingstrordinary - the sense of fantasy and wild imagination of some of the participants simply buggered description.

Men dressed as segments of cake dancing together in high hats and clodhopping boots, surging together from time to time to re-form the complete cake with their heads as decorations atop the icing. A giant microlight aircraft apparently crashlanded sideways across the back of a float. Bare flesh everywhere, male and female. A troupe of bronzed gay men of various ages dressed only in boots, skimpy blue speedos and flashing red bicycle lamps hooked over their crotches: all with tiny yellow fluffy chicks strapped inexplicably to their heads."
