Israel

July 1997

In Israel, the straight community treats Bisexuals better than it treats the Gay/Lesbian community. In the main, there is no mention of bisexuality and it gives the same rights to homosexuals and lesbians that it gives to straights.

There are no Bi clubs or discos here - bi's party at Gay and Lesbian clubs all over Israel, the selection that being made at the doors of these clubs (especially at Tel-Aviv) is: Straight - no enter, Homosexuals, Lesbians and Bi's - enter.

There is no real bisexual community in Israel, and it is hard to meet openly bisexual people, especially men.

There was a group of Bi and Lesbian womyn in Jerusalem in 1995-1996, but since the leader left back for the US last year, it ceased to exist. It was a great group, we made the change in Klaf (Lesbian Feminist Community) and we showed that we are one community, and Klaf is open now for Bi women. HaAsiron HaAher (10% Other) is a very acceptive and open group. Before I even met the bi womyn group, I came out at the Asiron. Unfortunately, it's mostly men. However, in general, I think there is a great biphobia among the gay community in Israel.
