A few words on the Buenos Aires Bisexual Women's Support Group active in Buenos Aires:

This is a very new group, started in February 1997. It's the very first attempt at bisexual organization in Argentina, and in Latin America as well. In Argentinean society, bisexuality does not enjoy the same status as lesbianism or male homosexuality i.e. it's not yet recognized as a valid identity, with a world of its own. All common places and prejudices are well and alive: confusional / transitional stage, promiscuity, cowardice. In a society where women's position is still very subordinated to men's -specially at economical levels- and family ties/influence is very strong, most women have very little chances to define their own sexuality. Marriage is very difficult to avoid, unless one defines as a lesbian at an early age.

Ours is a support group, that means that we try to reconcile women with all aspects of their sexual/love lives and also to explore together the reasons why they relate to men and to women. Through group discussions, readings, experiences sharing and peers support, we try to make choices that stem from our heart or our sex, and gather enough strength to face society. Women of all ages and social backgrounds come to the group. Some are actively bisexual, others are married and never dared to approach a woman, or are lesbians feeling attraction to men. The differences enrich our dialogue and empower all of us.
